As a young boy, he vividly recalls visiting Hess gas stations with his father, who explained that because Hess stations sold only gas and didn’t repair cars, they could be “white and clean”. At just five years old, Michael felt like a “big kid” for understanding that simple but profound detail — a moment that stayed with him forever.
Years later, in 1993, not long after his father’s passing, Michael began a heartfelt tradition: purchasing a Hess truck each year in remembrance. Though he didn’t live near any Hess stations, every holiday season brought a sense of excitement and joy — like a kid in a candy store — whenever he spotted one. That annual quest became a personal celebration of love, nostalgia, and connection.
Michael’s passion has since blossomed into something extraordinary. Recognized as the leading expert on all things Hess Toy Truck, he has been featured on CBS News, the New York Post, Inside Edition, the New Jersey Record, and many other media outlets. From the earliest models to the latest releases, Michael’s depth of knowledge is unmatched. There isn’t a detail, variation, or historical tidbit he hasn’t studied, documented, or shared.
What began as a tribute to his father has grown into a legacy that touches families around the world. Michael continues to inspire others to pass down the joy of collecting Hess trucks — just as he plans to do with his own family. Originally from New York, he now resides in Orlando, Florida with his wife and two daughters, who are part of the next generation of Hess enthusiasts.
